20 Amazing Places To Eat In Maui (Everything I Ate In Maui)

With so many great places to eat in Maui, it can be overwhelming to decide where to go. I spent a week in Maui with my fiance and despite all the fun things we did, I think it’s the food I remember most! If you’re looking for food inspo before your trip to Maui, this post is for you.

Each restaurant will be categorized under the town and region of Maui for ease of planning. Let’s go!

Kahului (Central Maui)

Tin Roof – 360 Papa Place Ste Y, Kahului, HI, 96732

If you are just getting out of Kahului Airport and need food stat, come here. We were starving after 12+ hours of flying and were so excited to eat. Tin Roof’s specialty is the Kau Kau Tins, which contains a protein of your choice, rice, and cabbage. We opted for the Mochiko Chicken and Garlic Shrimp.

The Mochiko Chicken was the standout item here. It was so crispy, flavorful, and paired well with the rice. You can skip the garlic shrimp – as the trip went on, we found better places to get Hawaiian style shrimp.

Oyako Tei – 74 Lono Ave Suite 116, Kahului, HI 96732

This little mom-and-pop shop is truly a hidden gem. They don’t even have a website! We were jet-lagged and up before the sun one morning, looking for places that were open at 6 AM. Oyako Tei answered our prayers. We had the best spam musubi and fried rice here.

Food Truck Park ā€“ 520 Keolani Pl, Kahului, HI 96732

There are TWO food truck parks in this area, one across the street from a Costco, and another right next to a Courtyard Marriott. Pick one to park by and take a short stroll to the second one, you can’t miss them! There’s plenty of parking and picnic tables under tents right on the premises.

We must have visited these food trucks almost every day of our trip. They were so close to our hotel and were a quick, cheap answer to our food cravings. The food trucks were one of my favorite places to eat in Maui! The blue highlights below are my favorite trucks you can find in these two parks, with links to their websites.

Kraken Coffee

Even if we didn’t have time for food, we would stop by for coffee before heading out for the day. We loved that this truck opens early and serves delicious coffee for cheaper-than-Starbucks prices! Get the Haleakalatte and Mocha Wao.

Geste Shrimp

Am I allowed to say this is the best shrimp in Hawaii?? Because I feel that strongly about it. This was one of our first meals in Hawaii and I made sure it was also the last as I tearfully said goodbye to the food trucks before heading to the airport.

Each shrimp plate comes with 12 pieces of shrimp, 2 scoops of rice, and crab macaroni salad. I love that macaronic salad is such a staple in Maui, it came with almost every meal and I never got tired of it! We liked the Hawaiian Scampi flavor best out of all the ones we tried. Also, this truck is cash only.

Thai Mee Up

This truck has won multiple awards for Best Food Truck in Maui and is the brain child of Chef Tom Sribura from the famous Mama’s Fish House (we could not get a reservation here, but if you’ve been, please let me know if it’s worth the hype!).

We decided to try Thai Mee Up’s version of our favorite dishes to order at home, Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles), and both were amazing! We ordered the pad thai on two separate occasions during our trip. You can skip the Thai tea, it was just okay.

‘Ono Teppanyaki & Seafood

Right next to Thai Mee Up is ‘Ono Teppanyaki, another truck from Chef Sribura. If you’re planning on stopping at multiple trucks, come to this one first! Since the food is made to order, it takes awhile. It’s hard to beat lobster and steak at food truck prices!

Mo ‘Ono

Once you’ve hit all the food trucks and it’s time for dessert, come here for an acai bowl. I’ve been having a hard time finding acai bowls that are this fresh and affordable back home in NJ! Get their homemade liliko’i butter for an extra special topping.

Wailuku (Central Maui)

SixtyTwo MarcKet – 62 N Market St, Wailuku, HI 96793

We were looking for brunch one day and happened across this place! SixtyTwo MarcKet’s menu rotates every 62 days – I love their use of fresh seasonal ingredients!

We decided to order the Maui Cattle Loco Moco. Loco moco is a Hawaiian dish consisting of white rice topped with a hamburger, a fried egg, and gravy. You can get it all over the island but SixtyTwo’s version was delicious!

Lahaina (West Maui)

Down The Hatch – 658 Front St # 102, Lahaina, HI 96761

Down The Hatch is a great spot to grab food and drinks on Front Street. It is located in the middle of an outdoor shopping plaza and has a relaxed vibe. We admittedly came here because we had a coupon from The Snorkel Store, but the food did not disappoint!

DTH offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but we stopped by for lunch. I had never heard of the Lava Flow cocktail before coming to Maui, but after I had it at this restaurant, I ordered it whenever I could! It has light rum, coconut, pineapple juice, and strawberry puree – basically a pina colada with strawberry!

We shared a Lava Lava Shrimp appetizer (crispy shrimp in a spicy sauce), Cajun Ahi, and Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi. I was impressed with all of it, but the ahi tuna was my favorite.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice – 790 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761

Ululani’s is iconic for Hawaiian shave ice. Their slogan is, “All shave ice is not created equal” and it’s true! The texture of Ululani’s shave ice is unmatched and they have so many flavors to choose from.

I ordered the Sunset Beach combination, which is guava, mango, and passion orange. Don’t forget the fresh mochi on top!

Though we visited the Ululani’s in Lahaina, they have locations all over Maui so you can get your shave ice fix pretty much wherever you are! They have shops in Kahului, Kihei, Paia, and more.

Lahaina Dole Whip – 693 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761

Did you even go to Maui if you don’t try a legit Dole Whip? This was a much-needed and refreshing treat on a hot day.

Feast at LELE – 505 Front Street, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii 96761

We loved this luau! You can read more about it in my 13 Things You Must Do In Maui post. The concept of this particular luau was a culinary tour through the Pacific Island nations of Aotearoa, Tahiti, Samoa, and Hawaii. There were a ton of courses (and an open bar) as you can see below:

Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop – 820 Olowalu Village Rd, Lahaina, HI 96761

I quite literally have dreams about the Reuben sandwich I got from Leoda’s. It was the perfect combination of grilled bread, tender corned beef, tangy sauerkraut (housemade!), cheese, and thousand island dressing. Please do yourself a favor and try it! And while you’re at it, grab a mini pie for dessert! They have so many delicious flavors to choose from but we went with trusty banana cream pie.

Kihei (South Maui)

Three’s Bar & Grill – 1945 S Kihei Road Suite G, Kihei, HI 96753

This Kihei spot was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives so of course we had to stop by for dinner after a day at Kamaole Beach.

If you had told me that the Beer Can Chicken was in the running for the best thing I ate in Maui, I would be surprised too! My fiance and I still talk about this chicken on a semi-regular basis! It was impossibly moist, with potatoes covered in chicken fat, and bacon brussel sprouts in a hoisin soy citrus glaze. If there’s one thing you take away from this post, please do not underestimate this beer can chicken!

I got too excited but before the chicken came out, we split Kalua Pork Nachos and Spicy Boiled Baby Potatoes. The nachos were good, especially if you like truffle oil. We could have passed on the baby potatoes, especially since the beer can chicken also came with potatoes. Don’t miss this spot if you’re in Kihei!

Hana (East Maui)

Aunty Sandy’s Famous Banana Bread – 210 Keanae Rd, Keā€˜Anae, HI 96708

I have to admit this banana bread lives up to the hype. After the initial shock of paying $7 for a small loaf of banana bread, the first taste was worth it. We even bought a second loaf to take home to NJ!

Huli Huli Chicken – 175 Haneoo Rd, Hana, HI 96713

We hadn’t heard of this place beforehand, but were persuaded to stop after seeing Gordan Ramsay’s name on their sign. I’m so glad we did! The Huli Huli chicken was smoked right in front of us and was a much-needed snack before braving the rest of the Road to Hana.

Paia (North Maui)

Paia Fish Market – 100 Hana Hwy, Paia, HI 96779

We came to Paia Fish Market twice – once while passing through Paia, and another time after Road to Hana. You could come here ten times and eat something different every time with how their menu works!

You select a fish (mahi mahi, snapper, ahi, salmon, etc), preparation (charboiled, sauteed, Cajun style, or blackened), and sides (rice, home potatoes, or french fries). Each plate comes with housemade coleslaw which had no business being so good. The portions are also huge! One plate is enough for two people (but get two plates anyway).

We also tried the clam chowder, which was fine. After Road to Hana, I opted for fish tacos and I regret not taking a picture of them because they were delicious!

I regret not taking more photos here!

Paia Fish Market has multiple locations. If you’re not passing by Paia, try Kihei or Lahaina. They even have two locations in Oahu if you’re island hopping!

Foodland Poke

Poke not from Foodland sorry I did not take pics!

Great poke can be found in Foodland grocery stores all over Maui! They have everything from salmon to tuna to octopus. It was so easy to grab and go. With a side of rice we had a full meal!

That wraps up places to eat in Maui! I know I barely scratched the surface of all the great eats Maui has to offer, so let me know in the comments what I need to try next time!
